Hi Lucas,
The first step is to talk to your family and see what they know already. Have a look at my articles on the SBS Who Do You Think Yoa Are website which will give you ideas about where to go from there. |

His death certificate should give you details of how long he had lived in Australia and from that you can then work our when he might have arrived. The State Archives and the State library may have indexes of shipping lists for that period, or you might have to look through each arrival in turn if they have not been indexed. The name Filippi is a variation on the given name of Philip, common throughout all of Europe. |

Hi Robyn,
I enjoy the show, but it is annoying when you see so many high profile people, such as archive directors and professors seemingly doing the research when personal experience has shown these people wouldn't normally give a normal family researcher the time of day. Is there any plan for a follow up program on the realities of family research? |

Thanks for that, we're glad you enjoyed it and good luck with your family history. There's no final word on a new series, but we're all hoping it will happen. |

Hello, I am almost 13 and I would like to know the origin of the last name "Devlin" and how they came to Australia.
I would love to have an answer. Thanks |

Hi Jeremy,
My grandfather is adopted and knows nothing of his ancestors. He met his mother but she didn't want contact with him. We have her name and nothing else. Is there a way i could find out about her and her ancestors without seeing her? |

Jeremy
I would really like to become involved in Family History Research as a career, what types of jobs are available and what level of education do I need? |

| Hi Jeremy, I've been researching a family but can't find when they arrived in Australia. The family name is Moseley. My grandfather, Harrington Charles married Margaret Aitken Palmer c 1910 (I do have the accurate dates on file), his sister Edith Sarah Moseley and another sister Mary, both married in NSW on later dates. Anecdotal evidence points to India but Harrington Charles gave several different birthplaces none of them in Indi. Mary gave her birthplace as Dehli on her marriage certificate. I am wondering if they could possibly have been the children of convicts, could you make suggestions. |
